A great technique to be well prepared for an interview is running a practice interview beforehand. Maybe even a few times! Rehearsing prior to your interview is a good way to prep yourself so you are confident for the actual interview. Doing a trial run will help you get comfortable.
Always be sure to go over your resume and know it well so you are not confused when being asked questions related to your resume at the interview. Prepare a set of questions you would like to ask at the interview as well. An interview isn’t just about the employer getting to know you and your qualifications but it is also a good opportunity for you to find the answers to your questions in regards to their expectations, their company and your work and training schedule.
According to the book, Job Interview for Dummies, 4th Edition, by Joyce Laine Kennedy, you should “Practice your scenes until they feel right, until they feel spontaneous. Rehearsing gives you the power to become a confident communicator with the gift of presence. Your butterflies fly in formation.” (Kennedy, 2011, ch. 10)
Always remember, you want to sound natural, honest, and self-selling. Don’t sound too scripted, but instead flow with your words in an effortless way to ensure the best results at an interview. Don’t forget, practice makes perfect so don’t hold back on rehearsing several times before your big day!!!
